SGT NATHAN HUNT

Marion, TX

Mission Accomplished on September 11, 2010

Army Sergeant Nathan Hunt lost both of his legs while on a routine route clearance mission in Baghdad, Iraq, in May 2008. Escorting a convoy while searching for roadside bombs, SGT Hunt saw a flash as a bomb exploded hurtling him across his vehicle. SGT Hunt aided his colleagues as they worked to apply tourniquets to his legs, which he lost in the explosion.

Conscious throughout his evacuation, SGT Hunt was transferred to the nearest aid station before being first transported by helicopter to a nearby hospital and later airlifted to Landstuhl where his initial surgeries began. Subsequent surgeries were performed at Walter Reed Army Medical Center before SGT Hunt was airlifted to Brooke Army Medical Center to begin his rehabilitation.

Now medically retired, Nathan has two daughters and enjoys spending time with them. Some of his favorite things are swimming, biking, woodworking, and doing crafts with his family. He is working to complete his college degree with dreams to be a high school math teacher.

Nathan is grateful to be living in a specially adapted Homes For Our Troops home. Wide doorways and an accessible bathroom give him more independence and freedom of mobility.
