Volunteer At An Event
Make a difference in your community and show your support for our nation’s most severely injured Veterans by volunteering with Homes For Our Troops at a build event.
The construction of Homes For Our Troops homes have three integral events that are easy to attend and require only a few hours out of your Saturday or Sunday. Bring your coworkers, family, friends, kids (all ages welcome!), neighbors, and clients. The more the merrier!
COMMUNITY KICKOFF
Welcome the Veteran and his or her family to the neighborhood. This event launches the start of the home building process and is typically hosted at a local venue such as a community center. This is a critical event that helps rally support within the community that the Veteran has chosen to build his forever home in. How you can help: Assist in registering attendees, setting up and breaking down event items such as chairs, tables, tents, podium, decorations or food/beverage items.
VOLUNTEER DAY
Help make sure the landscaping looks just as beautiful as the home. This event marks a pivotal time in the home completion process and is located at the home build site. How you can help: Roll out sod for the lawn, mulch beds, prepare and plant shrubs, plus assist in registering attendees and setting up event items.
KEY CEREMONY
The home is officially move-in ready. This event celebrates when Homes For Our Troops presents the Veteran and his/her family with the keys to the home. Tour the home and see how all the special adaptations and final finishes turned out. How you can help: Assist in registering attendees, setting up and breaking down event items such as chairs, tables, tents, podium, decorations or food/beverage items.
Want to increase your impact? Ask your employer to sponsor the purchases of waters or other necessities for the event. Every little bit helps! Also, many companies have programs that donate cash for the hours you volunteer. Find out if your employer has a volunteer grant program.
