Army Sergeant Patrick Wickens loves being a stay-at-home dad to his sons Gavin, 9, and Carter, 1. But caring for his children on his own is often frustrating and challenging because his home is not wheelchair accessible. Every day, Patrick, who lost his right leg while serving in Iraq, hops on his left leg to get around. His wife, Jenny, constantly fears Patrick will injure himself further when she is not home.
Patrick and Jenny feel incredibly relieved knowing they will soon receive a specially adapted custom Homes For Our Troops home in 2019. “I know there’s a light coming at the end of the tunnel. These homes bring comfort, stability, independence, and freedom – there are no boundaries once you get the keys to that home,” says Patrick.
Before ringing in the New Year, you can help support Patrick, and so many more severely injured post-9/11 Veterans, by making a year-end contribution today. Your generosity will assist Homes For Our Troops in building and donating even more specially adapted custom homes to deserving Veterans, to help them rebuild their lives. Please join our mission today knowing you will be starting the New Year off by changing lives.
Learn more about Patrick’s story and how his HFOT home will change his life in our second Before the Build video.
