Army Sergeant Odin Ayala was on his third deployment when he lost both of his legs in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in Kandahar, Afghanistan on Sept. 14, 2011. In early December of 2013, just one week after the Thanksgiving holiday, Odin and his wife, Claudia, were recipients of an HFOT specially adapted custom home, a gift that was life-changing. Since moving into their home, they’ve welcomed two children and are grateful for the freedom and independence of a mortgage-free, fully accessible home.
This Thanksgiving, Homes For Our Troops extends our deepest thanks to our donors and supporters who provide severely injured post-911 Veterans like Odin the opportunity to rebuild their lives in a barrier-free environment. Because of your commitment to our mission, there are now 370 Veterans and their families living in safe and secure homes, with another 70 home-build projects in various stages of completion nationwide.
As we celebrate this national day of giving thanks, HFOT will be thinking of the brave men and women serving our country far from their homes.
Happy Thanksgiving from your Homes For Our Troops family.
