Army SGT Jourdan Smith

Jourdan Smith enlisted in the Army in 1999 at the same time as his brother, wanting to serve his country and travel to different parts of the world.

On May 26, 2007, on his second combat deployment, Sergeant Smith was serving as an Infantryman with the 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division in Baghdad, Iraq, when he suffered a gunshot wound to his right knee while on a patrol.

He spent several days in Landstuhl, Germany, before returning stateside to Andrews Air Force Base for additional treatment. After several years of limb salvage surgeries, Jourdan’s right leg was amputated below the knee.

Jourdan and his wife, Marie, are proud parents to five children.

Originally from Oregon, Jourdan is choosing to build his home in Texas because of the atmosphere and lifestyle.
