Army SGT William Fisher

Mardela Springs, MD

The son of a Marine, Will Fisher always wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps. In 1997, he enlisted in the Marine Corps and served for over a decade before joining the Army.

On October 19, 2009, Sergeant Fisher was climbing a ladder to take his position for overwatch operations as an infantryman with Task Force 16, 155th Brigade Combat Team in Balad, Iraq, when rotor downwash from a nearby helicopter caused him to fall 40 feet to the ground. He landed upright, resulting in a broken back and severe injuries to his right foot.

He was airlifted to Landstuhl, Germany, before transferring to Walter Reed Medical Center for additional surgeries and rehabilitation. Will served on active duty for four more years, enduring numerous limb salvage surgeries before deciding to amputate his right leg below the knee. He retired from the military in 2013.

Will is a proud father to Isabella, Ethan, and Evelyn. He enjoys scuba diving and spending time with Cassey, his significant other, and her four children.

Originally from Alabama, Will is choosing to build his home in Cassey’s hometown in Maryland.
