Army SGT Joshua Holm

Hudson, OH

Following in the footsteps of his uncles and grandfather, Josh Holm enlisted in the military. In 2005, the day after his high school graduation, he joined the Army as an armor crewman.

On January 17, 2008, Sergeant Holm was serving with Ironhawk Troop, 3rd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment in Mosul, Iraq, on a route clearance escort mission when his vehicle drove over an improvised explosive device (IED). He sustained severe injuries to his left leg, damage to his right knee, a broken back, tinnitus, and traumatic brain injury (TBI).

He was medically evacuated to Balad before transferring to Landstuhl, Germany, for additional surgery. After numerous limb salvage surgeries spanning more than a year at Brooke Army Medical Center, his left leg was amputated below the knee.

Josh and his wife, Michelle, enjoy cooking and spending time with their daughters, Maxine and Mabel.

Originally from Ohio, Josh is choosing to remain in his home state to be close to family and friends.
