Army SGT Jourdan Smith
Ingleside, TX
Jourdan Smith enlisted in the Army in 1999 to serve his country and travel to different parts of the world.
On May 26, 2007, on his second combat deployment, Sergeant Smith was serving as an Infantryman with the 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division in Baghdad, Iraq, when he suffered a gunshot wound to his right knee while on a patrol.
He spent several days in Landstuhl, Germany, before returning stateside to Brooke Army Medical Center for additional treatment. After several years of limb salvage surgeries, Jourdan’s right leg was amputated below the knee.
Jourdan and his wife, Maria, are proud parents to Kaiden, Benton, Cooper, Duncan, and Abigail. Jourdan enjoys photography and volunteers as a hunting and fishing guide. His current non-adapted house has narrow hallways and doorways, limiting his mobility.
Receiving a specially adapted custom HFOT home will allow Jourdan to access every part of the home in his wheelchair. He looks forward to the open floor plan and accessible shower. “I worry due to my current bathroom situation, having fallen several times in the shower. Having a roll-in shower and therapy tub with safe access will be the biggest stress reliever for myself and my family.”
Originally from Oregon, Jourdan is choosing to build his home in Texas because of the atmosphere and lifestyle.
Jourdan would like HFOT donors and supporters to know he is grateful for their support. “Thank you so much for what you do. The freedom and independence you help provide for injured Veterans is honestly life-changing. Words cannot express how grateful we are for your support.”
