Army SGT Nicholas Rempp

Florence, AZ

Inspired to serve his country after 9/11, Nick Rempp enlisted in the Army in 2004.

On September 18, 2006, Sergeant Rempp was serving as a military police officer with the 1st Platoon, 554th Military Police Company, attached to the 630th Military Police Company in Baghdad, Iraq, when his vehicle was struck by an explosively formed penetrator (EFP). He sustained severe injuries, including the loss of his right leg above the knee.

He was evacuated to Landstuhl, Germany, before returning stateside to Walter Reed Medical Center for additional surgeries. Nick was transferred to Brooke Army Medical Center for rehabilitation and returned to active duty as a dog handler before his retirement in 2013.

Nick and his wife, Ryli, are proud parents to sons Colton, Caden, and Carson. Nick is a professional metal worker who enjoys teaching computer-aided design and manufacturing, a business he’s working toward establishing.

In their current non-adapted house, Nick is forced to wear his prosthetic or use crutches to access all areas of the home. A specially adapted custom HFOT home will give him the ability to use his wheelchair in a single-level, barrier-free environment. The mortgage-free home will also provide financial stability. “Our HFOT home will give us a stable living environment and allow us to focus more on building our business. Most importantly, it will give us the opportunity to share all these adventures with our boys as they grow up,” Nick says.

Originally from Nevada, Nick is choosing to build his home in Arizona to be close to his family.

Nick would like HFOT donors and supporters to know the impact of their generosity. “Thank you is not enough—this is life-changing for our family.”
