Clubs and Organizations
Most clubs, organizations, and professional associations are encouraged to give back to the communities they live and work in to help with the group’s overall philanthropic efforts. Whether your club likes to ride motorcycles, climb mountains, or throw an appreciation picnic, Homes For Our Troops could be the right cause to inspire your group.
Tip: People need jobs! Ensure your members have plenty of tasks to do. Make sure to show your group the impact their efforts have made by having a meeting to celebrate the event’s success.
Member Appreciation Picnic
Every September, Teamsters Local 120 members and their families attend a fun-filled day of family activities to support Homes For Our Troops. A day filled with teamsters trucks, BBQ, and raffles ensure this event is quite the success!
This is a simple way to connect union members and their families while raising funds for a great cause. Teamsters Local 120 President Tom Erickson says that they were looking for an opportunity to give back to the community.
“Upon learning about the Homes For Our Troops mission, we knew this matched up well with our core values. Many of our members are Veterans or have family members that have served, and we appreciate the opportunity to help care for those that protect us and our freedoms.”
Hill CliMB
The Fallbrook Firefighter’s Association hosts a 5K hike as a way to honor the memories of those lost during the attacks of September 11th.
The slogan,”We Climb because They Climbed,” was the inspiration behind the event and now acts as the fundraiser’s motto.
Bike RUN
The Minuteman HOG Chapter of Dartmouth has held a bike run to benefit HFOT for the past four years and man does their chapter like to ride! Members welcome neighboring motorcycle clubs to their local Harley Davidson and after the ride attendees enjoy live music, a feast provided by many local food vendors, and (weather permitting) some New England sunshine.
Jim Picanzo, former HOG Activities Officer, says that he was so impressed by HFOT’s Charity Navigator Rating, with nearly 90 cents of every dollar going back to the projects, it was a no-brainer!
The HOG Chapter is proud to support Homes For Our Troops at their annual ride where they give as much as they can to these deserving war heroes.
Bike Run
April Matt first heard of Homes For Our Troops in 2011 when Cpl Tyler Southern received his home in Saint Augustine, FL. After getting involved with a second build for MSgt John Hayes, she was hooked on HFOT’s mission.
April, a member of the committee for Seminole Electric’s Annual Motorcycle Ride, proposed the idea of donating funds from the ride to HFOT. The rest of the committee agreed and they have since raised over $100,000 for the organization! April chooses to support HFOT in honor of the brave men and women who served.
“Since I didn’t have the courage to serve, I feel like I should do as much as I can now for those who did,” she says. April is living her own personal mission, is now a CORE Ambassador, and attends events throughout the southeastern part of the country!
