HFOT’s 400th Home!

Categories: Blog, Home

On September 21, 2024, Homes For Our Troops celebrated a significant milestone by delivering our 400th specially adapted custom home to Marine Lance Corporal Alberto Flores Jr. and his family in New Braunfels, Texas, as part of our 20th anniversary of Building Homes and Rebuilding Lives.

Alberto was severely injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in Iraq, resulting in the amputation of his right leg above the knee. Alberto and his wife, Elvira, whom he met in the eighth grade, have been married for over twenty-five years and call their donated home with more than 40 special adaptations “a priceless gift.”

Texas Governor Greg Abbott joined HFOT President/CEO Tom Landwermeyer, HFOT Board Director and Texas Roadhouse CEO Jerry Morgan, and numerous HFOT Board Directors and military and community leaders to deliver remarks to over three hundred guests.

HFOT Silver National Partner Texas Roadhouse, National Partner Bubba’s 33, and their affiliates Jaggers and the TXRH Support Center generously funded the home, while HFOT Gold National Partner Wayfair fully furnished the home. ABC Supply Co., Inc. showed their continued support by attending the 400th home celebration, as did multiple corporate partner representatives, including Shaw Flooring, Cosentino, MITER Brands, Sherwin Williams, and Populus Financial Group. Additionally, H-E-B stocked the pantry for the Flores family.

We could not have reached this milestone without the support of our patriotic donors, supporters, corporate partners, and volunteers. While we celebrate this achievement, our mission continues. Based on U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs numbers, we estimate that there are still over 1,000 severely injured post-9/11 Veterans in need of adapted housing. With your commitment, we can restore some of the freedom and independence our Veterans sacrificed as a result of their service.

Thank you for helping us Build Homes and Rebuild Lives!
