Army SGT Robert Bryant McNeill Jr.

In 2007, Bryant McNeill enlisted in the Army to carry on his family’s legacy of military service, volunteering to serve as an Army Ranger.

On December 2, 2009, during his third deployment, Sergeant McNeill was serving as an Infantryman on a mission with the 1st Battalion, 75th Regiment in Tikrit, Iraq, when he suffered gunshot wounds from enemy fire to his left leg and back. His injuries resulted in the amputation of his left leg below the knee, bilateral hearing loss, extensive nerve damage, tinnitus, and traumatic brain injury (TBI).

He was airlifted to Baghdad for emergency surgery before transferring to Landstuhl, Germany for additional treatment. Stateside, he spent more than a year at Walter Reed Medical Center undergoing additional surgeries and rehabilitation.

Bryant is a youth sports coach at his local church and enjoys spending time with his fiancée, Jennifer.

Originally from South Carolina, Bryant is choosing to remain in his home state.
