SGT Quincy Lopez

Wesley Chapel, FL

Quincy Lopez was working as a police officer in New Jersey when terrorists attacked the United States on 9/11, inspiring him to serve his country and enlist in the military.

On January 26, 2006, during his third deployment, Sergeant Lopez was serving as an Intelligence NCO with the 10th Mountain Division in Baghdad, Iraq, when his convoy was hit by an improvised explosive device (IED). The blast resulted in severe injuries to his leg, ultimately leading to the below the knee amputation of his right leg.

Quincy is a single parent to his son, Warren. He earned a master’s degree in psychology and continues to serve his community as a youth crisis counselor, and high school football and basketball coach. He also works with the Veteran community in various capacities.

A specially adapted custom HFOT home with a single-level open floor plan will allow Quincy to utilize his wheelchair, mitigating further injury. With the freedom and independence he will regain, he is looking forward to pay it forward through his involvement in issues related to Veterans and and the youth community.

Originally from New Jersey, Quincy is choosing to build his home in Florida for its proximity to the VA Medical Center, Veteran friendly environment, and highly-rated school district.

Quincy would like to express his immense gratitude for HFOT’s donors and supporters for giving hope to Veterans and their families. “You are giving us light when we have darkness all around us. You are giving us back our independence and our families. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!”
