Months into his first deployment in Afghanistan, Army Specialist Blaine Sullivan lost his left leg in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast. Stateside, he was faced with the challenge of raising his toddler son in a house not suited to his needs. “Small hallways. Small doors. Small kitchen. The floorboards and the doorways paid the price for it—trying to chase around a three-year-old and banging into things.”
A recipient of a specially adapted custom HFOT home, Blaine is now able to raise his son in a barrier-free environment. The open floor plan and wheelchair-accessible rooms provide the opportunity for him to rest and recover in his wheelchair, while the financial freedom of a mortgage-free home allows him to save for his son’s future.
“Never in my wildest dreams would I have expected to be honored with such a generous gift. My family and I are beyond excited to be in an environment that will truly give me independence and let me focus on healing,” he says. “From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much.”
This holiday season we want you to know it is only because of YOU that over 370 Veterans like Blaine are living independently and rebuilding their lives within their own homes.
